GAC AWARD 2025 to the exhibition “Joaquim Chancho. The 1970s”

On behalf of the gallery team, I would like to thank the jury of the GAC Awards 2025 for considering the exhibition “Joaquim Chancho. The 1970s” worthy of this prize, and I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate not only the other award recipients, but also all those other proposals that were strong and deserving contenders.

The exhibition presented, for the first time in 40 years, a perspective focused exclusively on the work from the 1970s by artist Joaquim Chancho (1943). A body of work stripped bare, free from unnecessary references, devoid of distractions, and liberated from excessive overexposure. A form of painting that is, ultimately, introspective, thoughtful and rigorous… qualities and values that are increasingly rare today in many areas of life, and yet which Joaquim Chancho embodies fully in his very being.

We would therefore like to thank him not only for his seven decades dedicated to art, but also for placing his trust in us when we proposed bringing this project to life. His dedication, willingness and enthusiasm never wavered. Nor did the commitment of Fede Montornés, to whom we are also deeply grateful for his curatorial work. His perceptive eye in selecting the works—analysing the depth of paintings that had not seen the light of day for many years—along with the text he wrote, were essential in giving this project its soul.

We would also like to acknowledge the vital and constant support of Marià Chancho, and to remember and thank Carla Camacho for her essential work in coordinating both the exhibition and its catalogue.

Thank you very much, and long live the Nit del Galerisme/GAC Awards!
