Jacques Léonard’s relationship with Salvador Dalí dates back to the early 1950s when the photographer was introduced to the painter by Alberto Puig Palau, a textile industrialist from the Catalan bourgeoisie, a friend and protector of many artists.
Léonard made three different photographic jobs with the artist. The first, in 1955, for a magazine titled ‘Revista’; the second, in 1957 for ‘La Gaceta Ilustrada’; and the third in 1963. In these photographs, the author’s ability to portray Dalí as a good actor who was representing the character he himself had created and also the artist in his privacy with an attitude far from the histrionic gestures he would often perform.
