This exhibition offers a comprehensive survey of Henri Michaux’s entire artistic career. Even though he was extremely active as a writer and poet, his experimentation in the realm of art encompassed an extensive artistic repertoire far more closely connected with drawing than with painting. The exhibition features a selection of some fifty pieces, among them oils, ink drawings and watercolours, from every period of the artist’s career, beginning in the 1930s and ending in the 1980s. Michaux’s work is noted for its examination of otherness and for its exploration of the inner, often unexplored, universes of the mind. The exhibition is complemented by a selection of documents and books that provide an insightful picture of the fascinating world of one of the most important and influential artists of the twentieth century.
