Gaston Chaissac. Objects, Paintings, Drawings and Collages
Download catalogNearly 40 works, including objects, paintings, drawings and collages, offer us a wide and complete tour of all his original artistic production. Chaissac’s work is casual, ironic, subversive and irreverent. Despite his social and personal isolation and a fragile health that rocked him throughout his life, Chaissac produced an extraordinary, imaginative, body of work that was deliberately distanced from the great artistic movements of the time. His characters introduce us to a fantastic, unreal world of smiling monsters that emerge from abstract compositions and everyday and objects that, with his artistic intervention, gives them a new meaning, a new life. Not surprisingly, this overflowing creative energy ended up leaving a mark, personal in some cases, artistic in others, on personalities as relevant in the world of art as Otto Freundlich, Albert Gleizes, Auguste Herbin or Jean Dubuffet.
