Maria Blanchard

Santander, 1881 – Paris, 1932

Maria Blanchard, born on March 6, 1881 in Santander and who died on April 5, 1932 in Paris. She completed her studies in Madrid and in 1906 she settled in Paris where Van Dongen introduced her to the Cubist circle. She was very closely linked to Cubism but her work was closely related to Mannerism. Her work often presents people’s lives, a theme that we see repeated in her work and that has aspects in common with popular art.
