Josep Royo is a prominent Catalan artist known primarily for his work in the field of textile arts. Born in Sabadell (Barcelona) in 1945, Royo trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in his hometown, where he developed his interest and skill in tapestry and textile design. His work is characterized by the integration of traditional techniques with modern approaches, which has allowed him to create pieces of great artistic and cultural value. Throughout his career, Royo has collaborated with important artists, most notably with the famous Catalan painter Joan Miró. In the 1970s, Royo and Miró carried out a series of joint projects that fused painting and textile art, resulting in some of the most innovative and surprising works of that era. Among these collaborations, the creation of large tapestries such as the “Tapís de la Fundació” and the “Gran Tapís de la Fundació Joan Miró” stands out, combining Miró’s surrealist imagery with Royo’s textile mastery.
