Biography
Druskininkai (Lithuania), 1891 – Capri (Italy), 1973
Jacques Lipchitz is widely recognized as one of the major artists of the Cubist movement and part of the avant-garde artistic panorama from the beginning of the 20th century. His first Cubist work dates from 1914. This great artist, who emigrated from Lithuania to France and then to the United States, always maintained his creative ideas and immense talent.
In the life of Lipchitz, an untiring traveller, there is a strong desire to transcend frontiers through his art, a universality for which he feels nostalgic and which he seeks in his artistic evangelism where the manifestation and expression of Jewish, Christian and Greek mythology themes can be found, while still maintaining dialogue with true life.
