Two paintings by Esther Boix become part of the MNCARS collection

We are pleased to announce that all the paperwork has been completed, and the two works by Esther Boix that the Ministry of Culture acquired at the last edition of ARCOmadrid 2024 are now part of the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid). For the Museum, the acquisition of 30 works at ARCO by artists such as Nuria Güell, Ana Laura Aláez, Lola Bosshard, Mitsuo Miura, Ana Gallardo, Alicia Herrero, Josep Ponsatí, Miguel Ángel Rojas, Regina José Galindo, and our representative Esther Boix, demonstrates the institution’s commitment to broadening the horizons of the Collection. The Museum stated, “The emphasis on broadening the horizons of the Collection is evident in the fact that 19 of these artists are new names, never before present in the Museum’s collection.” Similarly, Jordi Martí Grau, Secretary of State for Culture of the Government of Spain, declared that one of the main goals of the acquisitions by the Ministry of Culture and the Reina Sofía Museum “was to increase the presence of female artists in future presentations of the Museum’s collection, which is why 17 of the 22 purchases are from female creators. (…) With these new pieces (…) the collection of feminist poetics from the 1970s is expanded, and the doors of the museum are opened for the first time to lesser-known artists such as Esther Boix, who pushed the boundaries of art with her radical pedagogy…”. During the next Barcelona Gallery Weekend (19-22 September 2024), we will present an exhibition of works by Esther Boix that will cover the period from 1955 to 1975. The exhibition will be on view from 19 September to 4 October 2024. We look forward to seeing you!
