Magda Bolumar Chertó was born on October 1, 1936 in Caldes de Estrach (Barcelona). In 1939 her family moved to Mataró, where she would later take her first studies. Bolumar began her artistic career in the late 40s and early 50s. She connected with the members of the Dau al Set group in the mid-1950s and met the sculptor Moisés Villèlia with whom she got married to a few years later. She took part in various group exhibitions both in Mataró and Barcelona, ​​and performed solo shows at the Municipal Museum of Mataró. In the 60s she began to produce works using sackcloth and they were known as “xarpelleres”.
